MSLA | Masked Stereolithography | 3D Printing

MSLA | Masked Stereolithography

MSLA resin 3D printing is built for engineering teams that need accurate, smooth, functional parts without waiting on tooling. SICAM’s Formlabs Form 4 and Form 4L capabilities expand our additive manufacturing options with faster print speeds, fine feature detail, and a broader range of engineering resin materials.

Fast Functional Parts With Engineering Resin Options

Use MSLA for functional prototypes, design-validation parts, presentation models, jigs, fixtures, and production-intent components where surface finish, detail, and material behavior matter.

When you need to test a design quickly, MSLA can help shorten the loop between CAD, physical part, review, and revision. Formlabs states that most Form 4 prints complete in less than two hours, while larger Form 4L builds support bigger resin parts with fine detail and smooth surfaces.

SICAM helps you evaluate geometry, material requirements, finish expectations, and the next manufacturing step, whether that is MSLA, another additive process, machining, urethane casting, or injection molding.

How It Works

MSLA uses projected light to cure a liquid photopolymer resin layer by layer. Compared with traditional laser-based SLA, Formlabs Form 4 technology uses Low Force Display technology to cure each layer quickly and consistently across the build area.

The result is a strong fit for parts that need fine details, smooth surfaces, tight visual definition, and engineering resin performance.

Typical MSLA Strengths:

  • Fast iteration for prototype and validation cycles
  • Smooth surface finish
  • Fine features and sharp detail
  • Functional resin material options
  • Good fit for housings, enclosures, snap-fits, fixtures, and presentation parts
  • Useful bridge between early prototype and production-intent testing

Applications

Functional Prototypes

MSLA is a strong option when a prototype needs to do more than show shape. Use it for parts that need to be handled, assembled, tested, reviewed, or revised before tooling.

Jigs, Fixtures, & Manufacturing Aids

MSLA can support fast production of workholding aids, assembly fixtures, checking tools, nests, trays, and other shop-floor or lab-use components where resin material fit is appropriate.

Form and Fit Testing

Fine detail and smooth surface quality make MSLA useful for checking fit, assembly, ergonomics, clips, covers, enclosures, and cosmetic surfaces.
